In brief

What works, what to weigh

+

Strengths

3 reasons to book
  • Genuinely helpful staff — Guests repeatedly mention the kind, attentive team — from storing luggage all day to pointing out restaurants and transport. A 24-hour reception means help is always available.
  • Free parking in central Porto — Parking is a real bonus in a city centre, and several reviews call out the free on-site parking (with valet service too). Useful if you're arriving by car.
  • Quiet, comfortable rooms — Reviewers describe comfortable beds, good heating and AC, and rooms facing the terrace as quiet — a welcome detail in a busy city. Recent renovation adds a fresh feel.

Worth weighing

3 to weigh
  • Value score is the weakest point — While guests praise the location and service, the Value rating (7.4) sits below other categories. You're paying for a central location and amenities like parking, which may not suit the strictest budgets.
  • No pets and no smoking allowed — The hotel doesn't accept pets, and it's a fully non-smoking property. If you travel with an animal or smoke, this isn't the place.
  • Two-star simplicity — At 2 stars, don't expect resort-style facilities. The hotel offers the essentials — Wi-Fi, breakfast, parking — but without extras like a pool or gym, and some guests found the breakfast just 'satisfactory'.

“The room had everything I needed — a comfortable bed, good heating, electronic key card, and a desk to work at.”

8Verified guest

“We had a great three-day stay in Porto. The hotel was clean and perfectly located, just steps from the train station on the direct line from the airport. Breakfast had plenty of tasty options.”

8Verified guest

“The staff were incredibly kind and held our luggage all day while we waited for the last train, which made sightseeing much easier. The location let us walk to all the main sites, with public transport just meters away.”

8Verified guest

“Being a light sleeper, rest is my main worry with budget stays, but the beds here are very comfortable — including the extra bed I used. Rooms facing the hotel's terrace are quiet and silent, apart from the seagulls that are noisy all over the city. The cleanliness is also excellent. Breakfast is just right: coffee, juice, tea, pastries, cereals, butter, marmalade, oil, cold meats — exactly what you need. Wi-Fi and parking are both good if you're driving. The location in central Porto is perfect, within walking distance of the river, or a short funicular ride from the banks — a real help with hills and cobblestones if you're with older people or children. The staff will point you to excursions, metro stops, and good restaurants. I'll certainly return to Porto and to Hotel S. Gabriel.”

“The hotel has been recently renovated. Beds are comfortable, there's central heating, an electronic key card, and a work desk in the room — all appreciated. Breakfast was good with lots of choices. Our stay was excellent. The fresh renovation made the place inviting, and the convenience of heating and key cards was a plus. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of options. We had a fantastic stay and would definitely recommend it.”

“The staff's careful attention to guests is what I liked most. Rooms are clean, breakfasts are tasty, and everyone wears a friendly smile.”
